Beefy’s Cabin

Sunnyvale, California

Occupying a small strip mall in Sunnyvale just west of San Jose, Beefy’s Cabin packs a great dive bar name into an unassuming space under what looks to be a hand painted sign. Opened in 1974, the draw here is a classic neighborhood corner dive bar mixed with a darts destination, the array of dart boards inside one of the best collections in one of the more laid back spaces in the south Bay Area. The white and black exterior matches the white paint mixed with wood paneling inside, the space covered in beer signs but not overwhelmed like some San Jose dive bars.

A number of darts trophies can be seen behind the bar and atop some of the ledges throughout Beefy’s Cabin. Of course the eye is naturally drawn to the taxidermy marlin that has long anchored one end of the bar. Though the space has seen multiple names and a mix of owners through the years, some of that consistent history is preserved through elements like the wall above the bathroom doors where dart throwers have scrawled their high scores and messages through the years. Pool and steel tip dart leagues operate regularly out of Beefy’s Cabin, keeping the space lively despite the unassuming strip mall location.
