Cactus Bar

Boise, Idaho

Opened in 1936, Cactus Bar is the oldest bar in downtown Boise and one of the oldest such institutions in the state, a cash-only, no-frills dive bar classic known for its incredibly affordable pricing. Proclaiming that “every hour is happy hour,” Cactus Bar offers specials above and beyond standard options, including weekly offers as ridiculous as two well drinks for $3.50 or $1.50 Rolling Rock cans. More upscale offerings are available as well, of course, spanning 10 to 12 rotating draft taps.

Cactus Bar is a bit of an Idaho icon, the site’s longevity allowing it to pop up on a number of national dive bar articles along the lines of “best dive bar in every state” lists. The Boise dive bar’s popularity was cemented in 2017 when Uber cited it as the state’s most popular Uber destination. Owner Daniel Rockrohr has allowed the no-nonsense interior to remain largely untouched, recently unveiling an expanded and renovated patio area that left the original structure intact.
