The Scurvy Dog

Providence, Rhode Island

Looking like a black shoebox on the side of a Providence highway, The Scurvy Dog is the punk rock dive bar king of the city on the edge of the Olneyville neighborhood. The paint options were simple the day the look of The Scurvy Dog was decided, heavy on black with a red accent when needed. The floor, the ceilings, the walls, all of it conspires to create perhaps the darkest dive bar atmosphere in Providence, adding to the ambiance set by the rock, metal and punk soundtrack.

Live music posters add to the vibe interspersed among the black painted beams that criss-cross the Providence dive bar’s red walls. The Scurvy Dog is, as the name suggests, a dog friendly dive bar, especially on the outdoor patio that stretches into the parking lot behind the bar. Recently, that parking lot has played host to the bar’s “Parking Lot Mega Show,” an annual celebration of live music that takes over the ample space behind the bar.
