There are dive bars that occasionally host karaoke nights and then there are karaoke bars that happen to be divey and Cookie’s in Oklahoma City is definitely the latter, a snug corner bar opened in 1995 that hosts karaoke each and every night. Karaoke runs from 8:30 PM to 2 AM every night, a considerable window of availability to participate in a shameful, drunken performance. Be warned that smoking is allowed at Cookie’s and the quarters are cramped, but that only adds to the experience when the whole dive bar is singing along to some karaoke favorite.
The Oklahoma City dive bar features a massive sign and marquee out front, the black plastic inscribed with the ever-classy cocktail glass, the word “Cocktails” and the name of the bar. The presence of a few music notes within the sign tips off the appeal here. Reservations for parties of 8 or more are available to secure some of the very limited seating to be found at Cookie’s. The beer and shot special runs $5 every day and a small patio along the side of the building allows for a little string light-draped reprieve from the musical intensity inside.
The walls are covered in continuously replenished local art and chess boards are available for the day drinking types who have the audacity to visit Cookie’s before 8:30 PM. Ownership switched hands in 2019 but the commitment to karaoke preserved intact, the Oklahoma City dive bar serving as the only full-time karaoke bar in the city.
