Pittsburgh’s South Side is friendly dive bar territory, the neighborhood more than willing to support a no-frills, affordable option embedded into the local community. Nearby Jack’s Bar dresses up its offering in rainbow neon, but White Eagle refuses even those minimal frills, occupying the white stone corner of an otherwise brick building with little more than block white type on a black sign above the front door.
The drink selection is affordable, of course, but be sure to ask about White Eagle’s infamous pudding shots, or White Eagle’s even more infamous “rocket fuel.” Pittsburgh’s smoking laws are more lenient than some cities, meaning that many of the city’s dive bars allow smoking in full or in part. White Eagle does allow smoking, offering a great divey options for smokers or a word of caution to those less inclined.
